The Problem
for some time now I have had a problem carrying my mobile phone about. This is because mobile phone cases rarely come with belt clips, I even remember the days that mobile phones had built in belt clips. I find that carrying a mobile phone about in my pocket is quite hazardous as it is quite easy for it to fall out whilst I am moving or even fall out of my pocket whilst I am sitting down. Placing the phone on a table can also end up in me leaving it there by mistake, or if I am at home I often find that the chance of me receiving a call after I have walked away from the phone is much greater when I am nowhere near it. This means that it is better to always have the mobile phone close to hand so having it attached via a belt clip seems the obvious solution so I set about looking for a suitable mobile phone case with a belt clip or a belt clip I could use for the purpose.
the initial solution
after an intensive search, well I typed the words mobile phone Belt clip into my search engine which is not Google but DuckDuckGo. I am originally from Leicestershire and the name of this search engine seems ironic. I found a suitable item which is a multipurpose belt clip that states in its information that it is suitable for carrying mobile phones. It is a 2 inch plastic belt clip, which as the name suggests clips over a belt, and a two-piece arrangement that helps secure the mobile phone to the clip. There is a small magnetic plug shaped piece that is connected to the mobile phone or cover by double sided adhesive tape, and I would suggest you stick it to a cover to avoid any warranty problems that may arise. This magnetic plug then connects to a recess in the belt clip and there is a locking lever to hold it securely in place. When you wish to use your phone you release the locking lever and twist your phone through 90°, releasing it from the belt clip. The problem I found with this was that the double sided tape that secured the plug to the mobile phone cover weakend after a few days and no longer felt secure when being carried about in the belt clip, so I resolved to find a solution to this problem.
the final solution
eventually I found a solution, and it was self-adhesive Velcro. This was the industrial strength variety and you can buy it in strips of many different sizes and is reputed to have the ability to hold weights up to 7 kg. I decided this would be a good acquisition as it would not only help me with securing the mobile phone in preference to double sided tape but would also help me secure other items that I am very good at knocking over when reaching for something else. I cut a small piece of the self adhesive Velcro and stuck it to the mobile phone cover and then stuck another piece to the magnetic plug and they formed a very secure connection. I have been using the mobile phone and belt clip in this scenario for the past four weeks and it is working well.
